Women’s Volleyball Playoff Run Halted at Home
Raiders upset by Palomar in 3C2A So Cal Regional Championships Second Round
MOORPARK, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2025) – For the third straight year, Moorpark College hosted the Second Round of the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Women's Volleyball So Cal Regional Championships inside the Raider Pavilion. No. 6 Moorpark faced No. 11 Palomar tonight, dropping a 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 13-25, 25-19, 15-12) heartbreaker before a full house inside of Raider Pavilion.
The 2025 Western State Conference co-champions are no strangers to postseason play. In each of the last two seasons, MC has earned a host bid, but has then then fallen to drop out of the Tournament early. This year, unfortunately, history repeated itself for the Raiders who lost at home for the first time all season.
In the first set, Palomar capitalized on a slow Moorpark start and gained some momentum. Juda Washington and Olivia Campisi both had some key kills and Mia Paculan provided a string of great points from the service line. Despite the bright spots, the opening game went to the visiting Comets by a 25-20 margin.
During the second game, Kaylin Currie served the first two points and contributed a huge solo block before a block from Daylin Saiki and a kill from Genessa Johnson forced a Palomar timeout at 6-2. Natalia Galstian shined, serving and Callie Stankovich came up with a pair of blocks and a crucial kill, while Campisi also put down a timely kill to give MC a 10-3 cushion. After Saiki served an ace and forced Palomar to burn another timeout, the Comets came back and capitalized. The Raiders, however, maintained a lead and despite a four-point run late by Palomar, a Currie service ace ended things at 25-20 evening the match score.
The Raiders remained in control during the third set, which started with a giant Washington kill and ended on an attacking error in favor of MC, 25-13.
While the fourth set was promising and packed with action that included several solid rallies between the squads and even scores at 12-12, 13-13 and 14-14, once Palomar broke that 14-14 tie they would never look back. The final point was an epic battle on the court, which unfortunately went in favor of the visiting team 25-19.
Finally, the fifth was close throughout and the Raiders and Comets were never separated by more than three points. Johnson and Stankovich each had early equalizers in the game and trailing 11-8 a Johnson kill sparked a 3-0 run. With Galstian back to serve, she saved a play that would end with a Saiki kill before Stankovich contributed a block to knot things back up at 11-11. The ball bounced in favor of Palomar over the final points with a Comets ace ending things at 15-12.
Palomar (19-7) advances to play Long Beach City on Saturday, Nov. 29 while the Moorpark season comes to a close.
The Raiders (20-9) bid farewell to the sophomore group of Campisi, Paculan, Ela Lagatutta, Ashley Rojas and Mina Vargas who all appeared in Moorpark Blue and White for the final time tonight.
