Softball Postseason Bid Comes to Close
COC steals postseason play in game
CANYON COUNTRY, Calif. (April 28, 2026) – On a gorgeous spring afternoon at the College of the Canyons, Moorpark College softball stepped into the box and onto the field for a battle with the Cougars for a spot in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Southern California Regional.
Unfortunately, despite offensive sparks, the Raiders fell short, 5-2, ultimately ending their season while COC advanced to play in the SoCal Regional bracket.
Moorpark took an early lead on a no-doubt-about-it line drive homerun over the left field fence off the bat of Kailey Greene in the top of the second to give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.
In the bottom half of the innings, an unusual play in the outfield resulted in a pair of runs, allowing the host team to take over the lead. The Cougars added a third, and the ultimate winning run, in the bottom of the fourth before MC marched back to keep things close. A leadoff walk from Riley Furnace was followed by a single from Danielle Shinko and a bunt single off the bat of Rylee Redmond to load the bases. Morgan Casillas was hit by a pitch, to drive in a run, but that was all the Raiders would rally for, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
A pair of wild pitches and a fielding error took all the wind out of the Raiders' sails and the Blue and White were not able to string together any more offense over the final two frames, although there were a couple of very well-hit fly balls that just did not have the distance.
Moorpark (17-16) finished the season above .500 with some impressive wins as the program bids farewell to five sophomores.
College of the Canyons (23-18) will face No. 1 Palomar in Round 1.
