Baseball Brings Miller First Career Win
Raiders rise for 5-2 victory
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 27, 2026) – For the first time in the career of head coach Zachery Miller and for the first time in 2026, the Moorpark College baseball team earned a victory on the diamond, defeating LA Valley College 5-2 on the road on Tuesday afternoon.
MC jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Jaydrien Klein-Baker drove in Buddy Onoszko in the top of the first inning. Although LAVC reciprocated in the bottom of the frame, the Raiders rallied for another pair in the top of the second to take a lead they would not relinquish for the remaining seven innings. Nate Franco and Onoszko drew back-to-back walks to force a pitching change. Jaxson Herron then reached on a fielder's choice, and after Franco crossed the plate, navigated the bases before scoring the ultimate winning run, pushing the lead at the time to 3-1.
The Raiders tacked on a fourth run in the third frame. Klein-Baker worked his way to a walk and after moving up 90 feet and stealing third he positioned himself to score on an Aidan Gomez RBI single.
Teams exchanged runs in the seventh as the final scoring of the day. The Blue and White, once again, looked to Klein-Baker for the fifth run of the game. He tripled and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Chris Hemphill.
On the hill, Moorpark used seven pitchers with Christian Gastelum starting and earning the win after tossing 2.0 innings. Ruben Venegas also threw 2.0 innings in which he struck out one. Closer, Braden Jarvis struck out the side in the ninth to earn the save and secure the victory. Greg Lopez, Ronan O'Connell, Santiago Ramirez and Sebastian Ajemian also took the ball in the game.
Offensively, Klein-Baker led the way with a 2-for-3 showing with two runs and an RBI while Herron scored twice. The Raiders collected six hits and combined to draw 13 walks with Franco tallying a trio and Onoszko notching a pair.
Overall, 23 different players stepped on the field today for the MC baseball squad.
Moorpark (1-2, 0-0 WSC) returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 1:00 p.m. when the Raiders host Rio Hondo for a single game.
