MOORPARK, Calif. (Sept. 24, 2025) – The fall seasons are well underway at Moorpark College where, currently, eight teams are competing for the Raiders. With many memorable moments and noteworthy performances to date, take a look back at the last week-plus (Sept. 12-24) in Raider Nation.
Men’s Cross Country
Moorpark ran each of the last two Saturday’s. Most recently, an 8K at The Master’s Invitational hosted at Central Park in Santa Clarita on Saturday, Sept. 20, marked the first race of that distance for each member of the freshman class. Trent Williams (25:23.6) was the first man across the line for MC to finish among the Top-20. As all of the athletes continue to improve, racing at different distances, Theodore Shniderman had a strong showing at the Master’s Invitation, running his best race of the season. At the Western State Conference Preview on Sept. 13, the teams ran a four-mile course at Arroyo Verde Park. Again, the most notable performance came from Williams who clocked a 22:22.2 to place third behind a pair of 2024 top State finishers and just ahead of sophomore teammate, Tommy White (22:30.1). Williams was the top freshman finisher in the race. MC is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the UC Riverside Invitational when athletes toe the line for an 8:55 a.m. starting gun.
Women’s Cross Country
The Raiders ran a 6K at The Master’s Invitational on Sept. 20 and competed in a 5K the week prior at the WSC Preview at Arroyo Verde Park. Kayla Saxton (22:58.8), Addison Pereira (23:24.2) and Natalia Beltran (23:44.4) were the top three MC finishers at the conference preview meet placing 13th, 15th and 17th, respectively. The Master’s Invitational field was laden with NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and Community College teams. Saxton (26:20.0) and Pereira (26:21.7) finished back-to-back in the top half of the pack. Football (1-3, 0-1 NNC)
The National Northern Conference (NCC) football opener for Moorpark pitted the home squad against a tough team from Ventura College (4-0, 1-0 NCC). Unfortunately for the Raiders, the Pirates came out on top, 52-39, despite a late push from MC. Ventura got out to a 21-0 lead before Moorpark chipped away with touchdowns from Angel Urban and Carson Green. Quarterback Aidan Karsh connected with Urban for a four-yard score and Green for a nine-yard completion with Valentino Lara converting a pair of PATs. Moorpark trailed 28-14 at the half. Out of the locker room, Moorpark strung together a trio of scoring drives when Sirawn Evans found Jude Hooks and Urban for 7- and 16-yard completions for TDs in the third quarter and Evans and Hooks teamed up for another nine-yard score, closing the gap to 38-33 with 12:26 remaining in regulation. One more, 94-yard, drive ended with an Evans-Hooks scoring play, but it was just before the game clock ticked down to zero, leaving the Raiders just short of a comeback.
Moorpark collected 519 yards of total offense, with 424 through the air and 95 on the ground. MC was a perfect 6-for-6 in the Red Zone on scoring chances, combined for 32 first downs and went 3-for-5 on fourth down conversions. Evans was 19-for-35 with four touchdowns and a long completion of 39 yards. He also led the running game with 47 yards. Urban led all receivers with 10 catches for 137 yards and a pair of TDs while Hooks was next in line with 127 yards on nine catches for a trio of TDs. Defensively, Moorpark came up with three sacks for a loss of 21 yards. Nolan Story made nine stops, seven solo, and recovered a fumble. Men’s Soccer (4-3-1)
Moorpark notched two home wins this week, sandwiching a tough road loss. Following a 0-0 draw against Antelope Valley on Sept. 12, the Raiders returned to the win column on Tuesday, Sept. 16. MC defeated Imperial Valley 3-2 on a late score from Troy Mishkanian who had a standout game with two goals and an assist in the win. The lead changed hands several times and Imperial Valley knotted things at 2-2 at the 87:09 mark. Less than a minute later, on an assist from Ale Barreto, Mishkanian converted the game-winner. Darius Marsh tallied three saves in the win. In a tough, 3-2, road loss to Cypress, Mishkanian and Oscar Nunez scored on assists from Rami Chavez and Javier Castro, respectively, despite falling short. Most recently, MC outscored Cerro Coso 6-1 on Monday, Sept. 22 when Uziel Diaz recorded his second hat-trick of the season, scoring three of the six goals in the game. Ricky Esparza scored the ultimate game-winner on a pass from Mishkanian who also assisted Antonio De La Cruz in the game. Bobby Bahgeri recorded the final goal of the game for MC. Defensively, Artun Vance stopped five of six shots on goal. The Raiders have one final non-conference contest, on Sept. 30, against Glendale at home with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m. You can watch live here.
Women’s Soccer (5-3)
The Raiders stretched their win-streak to four after defeating both West LA and Fullerton by 1-0 margins on Friday, Sept. 19 and Tuesday, Sept. 23, respectively. After a scoreless first half against West LA, freshman forward Rhianna Golson scored the game-winner, which was also her first career collegiate goal, in the 81st minute. The defense allowed just four shots on goal and goalkeeper Maria Sturges turned away each one. Tuesday was almost like déjà vu with sophomore forward Mia Woods connecting for her first goal of the season in the 86th minute, propelling Moorpark to a team victory. Sturges continued her strong keeper play with four more saves. In their last four contests, MC has not allowed a goal and has outscored opponents 12-0. The Raiders are tuned up and ready for league action, which is scheduled to begin this Friday, Sept. 26 when Moorpark hosts Ventura College for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff. Live video coverage will be available for the game.
Women’s Volleyball (9-5)
Following a four-match win streak that included victories over Long Beach, El Camino, Mira Costa and Bakersfield, the Raiders travelled to Santa Monica College where MC battled, but ultimately fell 3-2. The teams exchanged sets with MC taking the first, 25-23 and third 27-25. Additional details to follow. Moorpark women’s volleyball returns to Raider Pavilion on Wednesday, Sept. 24 to host the College of the Canyons for a final tune-up before league action begins on Friday, Sept. 26 at LA Pierce College.
Men’s Wrestling
On Sept. 13, the Raiders opened their 2025 campaign at the Bakersfield Duals. The young team showed promise as MC defeated Bakersfield, for the first time in eight years, by a 26-21 margin. Additionally, the second dual pitted Moorpark against defending Conference Champions, Victor Valley. The Raiders tied the powerhouse 26-26, but after reviewing the tiebreaker, the match went in favor of VV, 27-26. The top performances came from William Fulgentes who defeated both a returning State Finished, 8-5, and the defending Conference Champion by a dominating 14-1 margin to earn Raider of the Week honors. Both Nathaniel Dominguez and Miles Kline won both of his matches as well. The Raiders return to the mats on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they travel to the Golden Eagle Tournament hosted at Lemoore College. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m.
