The Lady Raiders softball team has been playing well over the last month and find themselves in position for a playoff run as they took on defending WSC Champions Santa Barbara City College. After beating Santa Barbara easily at home in the single match the Raiders knew they were going to have to play hard at Santa Barabara to make the playoffs.
Unfortunately the day did not go as the Raiders had hoped dropping the first game 2-0 and the second game 3-0. The Raiders got great pitching from freshmen Marti Lewis, Karlie Barbato, and Sammy Whiteside and great defense but could night find their offensive groove. They had scored 12 runs off Santa Barbara in the first two meetings but could not come up with the timely hits today.
Coach Dave Fox said, “We had several opportunities to get on the board and apply pressure but did not execute our bunts well enough to move runners into scoring position soon enough and then could not get the timely hit when we needed it”. I am proud of our team never giving up and fighting until the last out was made. We are young and this will only help them for next year!
